The HLA Arizona Education Committee is responsible for the selection of appropriate speakers and topics to ensure both are relevant to the target audience, Arizona's Practice Management Community.  The topic and complete presentation must have importance to medical practice management staff and should be delivered within a specified time frame.  If you wish to be considered, we ask that you submit the Speaker Profile for consideration.

    Session Description:

    Understanding body language in business is a critical element of communication. Our verbal and nonverbal cues can enhance our ability to communicate effectively. We will learn how to read micro expressions and how to use decoding and encoding when understanding someone’s communication style. We will address how to read between the lines of what is not being said and how to ask questions to enhance our understanding and compassion. We will discuss how to use virtual cues in a virtual or hybrid environment. We will learn how to present ourselves and how to signal confidence and calmness to others through our hand gestures and expressions. We will utilize insight, interaction, and inspiration to help everyone learn effective professional body language for business.


    Session Objectives:

    • Percent of discussion that is verbal, nonverbal, and implied
    • How to use decoding and encoding in understanding your customer or teammate
    • Understanding the four main communications styles
    • How to read microexpressions in others and how to determine if further discussion is needed
    • How to display positive body language to convey confidence, understanding, and compassion
    • How to effectively lead your team

        Session Description:

        Practice managers support physicians and staff to provide the highest quality of patient care and ensure a positive patient experience. Formal training and on-the-job experience may leave a gap in knowledge about current risks and what actions could prevent a medical professional liability lawsuit or claim or a board complaint.

        This one-hour webinar will provide education on risk management in an office-based medical practice. Practice managers should be familiar with some of the high-risk areas for financial loss from lawsuits and regulatory noncompliance. During this one-hour session, we will walk through a high-level assessment of medical practice risks and some risk management strategies.

        Practice managers who complete the program will learn to identify risk exposures and apply strategies to reduce risk in the medical practice.

        Learning Objectives:

        Upon completion of this educational session, attendees will be able to:

        • Identify key areas for risk management improvement through self-assessment;
        • Develop risk mitigation strategies; and, 
        • Implement new or improved strategies that can reduce the identified risks or exposures.
